Dr. Pan's laboratory applies prospective cohort and intervention approaches to study etiology of cardiometabolic diseases with focus on genetic and environmental factors. In recent 10 years, we used omics techniques (genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics) to dissect etiology of hypertension, obesity, and metabolic syndrome and established risk assessment and drug response models. We deploy dimension reduction technique to find influential dietary patterns which is then associated with disease and subclinical disorders. In order to contribute to disease prevention, we design and evaluate efficacy of therapeutic diets to lower blood pressure and blood glucose. At the same time, metabolomics approach is used to characterize plant foods which will then be categorized and used to tailor individualized therapeutic diets.
